Giving therapy back to therapists

Tempo started in a waiting room, not in a business plan. I am Stefan Dinca, the developer behind the platform.

Built and used daily at

Live Better Life

How it started

I came to Live Better Life as a parent, not as a developer.

My child needed help, during a difficult period for us. Their schedule was full. They made room anyway. I have not forgotten that.

Over the next two years I spent a lot of hours in the waiting room. Slowly I started to see the other side of it: how much time went into booking and rebooking sessions, into keeping records on paper, into the answers they owed dozens of parents. People who are very good at what they do, buried in admin.

I recognised the feeling on my own side too. I waited for the review meeting to find out how things were going. In between, I knew very little.

I am a software developer. It was the only thing I had to offer.

From one centre, to any centre

I built the first version for them, as a personal project. No business plan, no deadlines.

Every screen was worked out together with Corina Gheorghe, clinical director at Live Better Life, tested in real sessions and rebuilt until it was faster than paper. I did not add a single feature nobody had asked for in the course of their actual work.

The parent portal exists because I was the parent waiting for news. It is not a feature thought up at a desk; it is the thing I missed most.

After a while it became clear these problems were not one centre's. That is where Tempo, in its current form, came from.

How we work

We help you migrate. Send us your existing spreadsheets and we handle transferring the clients, the therapists and the history. You do not enter anything by hand.

You talk to the person building it. We are not a large company. It is me and the centres using the platform. When you write, the person who writes the code answers.

The platform grows out of practice. Most features exist because a therapist or a coordinator said "this is where I lose time". If something is missing for you, tell me.

Your data

You work with data about children. As a parent, I know exactly what that means.

  • The infrastructure runs on Google Cloud (Firebase), with data stored in the European Union.
  • Access is role based: a therapist sees only their own clients, a coordinator sees the team, an administrator sees everything. The rules are enforced in the database, not just in the interface.
  • Parents get in with a code, with no account and no password. Codes cannot be listed and cannot be found by repeated guessing, and the session expires after 30 minutes of inactivity, because the portal is often left open on a family tablet.
  • Recordings and documents are invisible to the family until somebody explicitly shares them.
  • When you use the clinical assistant, children reach the model as initials and age in months only. Names and contact details do not leave the platform, and that is enforced by the code rather than by a policy.
  • Every significant action is logged, so there is a trail.

If you have specific questions about how data is handled before signing anything, write to me. I would rather settle them at the start.
